Skin Deep

A Show of Works by Artists of Color

The Olive Free Library Association is very pleased to present the exhibition SKIN DEEP showcasing the works of twelve regional artists of color. The show, curated by Nathalie Andrews and Elaine Ralston will run from September 25 through November 6, 2021 with an opening on Saturday, September 25 from 3 – 5 pm.

Andrews and Ralston say about this exhibition, “Family, friends, culture, race, faith, relationships, experiences, trials and tribulations…they define who we are. Skin Deep explores the ways that these influences exhibit themselves in the work that artists of color create. Spanning sculpture to paintings, collage to prints, the exhibit provides us with some insight into the psyche of artists from a range of races and backgrounds. Last year was one of turmoil and unrest. In some ways it was the stuff of paranoia, in others it was cathartic. The Black Lives Matter movement brought to the surface issues and problems that the nation has buried beneath the surface for decades. SKIN DEEP offers a way to get a glimpse of the fact that although we may look different, these differences are merely skin deep.”

The show’s participating artists are: Chee Bravo, Isabel Cotarelo, Ted Dixon, Imani Jones, Nestor Madalengoitia, Emmanuel Ofori, Ransome, Shiho K. Rice, Julia Santos Solomon, Pablo Shine, Renee Zhang, Xuewu Zheng.
