Ron Denitto
Selected Works
The Olive Free Library Association is pleased to present an exhibition titled Selected Works by regional artist Ron DeNitto. The show runs from September 21 to November 2, 2019 with an opening reception on Saturday, September 21, from 2 to 4 pm. Also scheduled is an Artist Talk on Saturday, October 12 at 2:30 pm at the Olive Free Library where the artist will speak in-depth about his work.
Ronald DeNitto is a product of New York City and attended The High School of Music and Art; The Art Students League, where he studied with Yasuo Kuniyoshi; and Queens College, where he studied with John Ferren. He also studied in California at The Chouinard Art Institute and at The School of The Art Institute of Chicago. He presently lives in the Hudson Valley where he has exhibited widely. Also featured in exhibitions throughout the country, DeNitto was represented by the Sindin Galleries in New York City. His work is in both private and corporate collections here and abroad.
The exhibition, Selected Works, focuses on four different themes: Ferguson, The Circus, Portraits, and Inscapes. Speaking of the Ferguson series, Ron says: “Mine is the language of painting, not photography. For a photographer to do a series of images on Ferguson it requires he or she to actually be there. For me, a painter, it is not necessary any more than it was necessary for Picasso to be in Guernica when it was bombed. I depend upon my imagination and painterly skills to project my feelings and understandings. Through my brush or whatever painting implement I choose, with my hand, I create images that do not correspond directly with what the eye sees but what my particular imagination forms. In my “Ferguson” series, the particulars of the events in Ferguson, Missouri are subordinated to something more basic and universal, abstracted images that represent aspects of racial conflict that extend beyond place and country.”
