NOW & THEN
A show of works by Woodstock School of Art Students and Alumni

The Olive Free Library Association is very pleased to present the exhibition Now & Then showcasing the works of 42 students and alumni of the Woodstock School of Art, a unique organization offering excellence in fine art instruction that contributes to the Town of Woodstock’s reputation as a vital, contemporary colony of the arts. The show, juried by Jenne Currie, a Woodstock School of Art Instructor and coordinated by Heather Caufield, Artistic Director of the Woodstock School of Art will run from January 20 through March 2, 2024 with an opening reception on Saturday, January 20 from 3 – 5 pm.

Jenne Currie says about this exhibition, “I am delighted to have been invited to jury the current exhibition, “Now & Then” at the Olive Free Library. I chose a diverse group of works by Woodstock School of Art (WSA) students past and present. My connection with artists in Woodstock runs deep; I was born here and both of my parents, and aunt and uncle, were artists and long time Woodstock residents, actively involved with the WSA for decades. Visiting the beautiful and spacious WSA campus today, it would be difficult to imagine its humble beginnings in 1968 in a single building on Millstream Road. The WSA was founded by four artists who had been affiliated with the Art Students League summer school in Woodstock—Franklin Alexander, Robert Angeloch, Lon Clark, and Wallace (Jerry) Jerominek. In 1980, the founders assumed ownership of the Art Students League property on Route 212 when the League vacated the premises, incorporated it as a non-profit… and the rest is history. Since its inception, hundreds of renowned artists and notables in the art world have been associated with the WSA, whose staff and board members are overwhelmingly professional artists. Over the years the school has grown by leaps and bounds, and currently over 900 students attend fine art classes and workshops in drawing, painting, printmaking, and sculpture each year. It is my hope that this exhibition will show the great diversity the WSA has to offer, from abstract to representational and the wide range of media taught there.”
